Nowy Jork - New York
New York is a city situated in the north east of the US. About 18 million people live there. New York is situated in New Jersey on the Hudson River. It is divided into five districts: Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Queens, Staten Island and the Bronx. New York was some time ago called New Amsterdam because of the Dutch colonists who bought the land from Indians and built the town in 1623. In 1664 the English captured the town and changed the name into New York.
New York is a very beautiful city with such interesting places to visit as the Statue of Liberty - a symbol of New York built by the French in 1886 as a sign of friendship and liberty and then passed to American nation. It is a very picturesque monument presenting a woman holding a torch. It is a great tourist attraction, one can climb it to see the panorama of the city. The Statue of Liberty is located in the Sea Port - a quarter of cinemas, theatres and museums. The most popular shopping area is situated along the Fifth Avenue. Worth visiting while staying in New York are the Metropolitan Opera, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Museum of Natural History and the United Nations Building as well. The characteristic architecture of New York are skyscrapers. The city is inhabited mainly, apart from Americans, by Italian, Polish and Japanese people which makes it a melting pot of nationalities and races.
To conclude, New York is a great place for tourists and those who have not been there, should go there to convince themselves that it is unique and worth visiting.
