Choroby - Diseases
Diseases have always accompanied living organisms. In the past people died of infectious diseases. They were undernourished and their immune system was too weak to defend them against various bacteria and viruses. Nowadays everything has changed. It is true that diseases and epidemics wreaked havoc to mankind during thousands of years and a human being was impotent to fight them. Nowadays most illnesses can be treated. Obviously there is a number of diseases which are incurable, such as AIDS or cancer. I would like to speak about is AIDS first. AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is transmitted by those who are already infected and with whom one has sex. Another way of transmitting HIV is by using unclean syringes or just by any contact with infected blood. An HIV positive pregnant woman runs the risk of infecting her baby. So far no cure for this terrible disease has been found.
The other illness I would like to discuss is cancer. It is one of the most dreadful diseases ever known. The main causes are: the pollution of the environment, smoking and bad eating habits. It is often referred to as the illness of the 20th century. In Poland the number of cancer increases by 2% every year.
In conclusion I would like to say that diseases such as the above are a cause of death to a large number of people and now scientists have been concentrating on research thanks to which it would be possible to invent a vaccine or a drug to stop people suffering.
