Angielski jest językiem międzynarodowym - English is an International Language

The idea of an international language has inspired many attempts to create an artificial language. Quite a few such languages have been created in order to make communication between different nations easier. Esperanto is the most famous of them, still it is used by comparatively few people nowadays. It turned out that a natural language, English, has made the dreams about an international language come true. It is spoken all over the world either as a native or a second language and it seems that the number of the English language users is growing. Learning the language has become extremely popular, and in many cases is seen as a necessity.

The status English as the predominant language in communication is the result of the role the British played in the past. They made great geographical discoveries, which helped them build their colonial empire. These processes, in turn, made it possible for English to spread all over the globe. Also the position of English speaking countries in the modern world explains this ever growing expansion. English has become the language of culture, business, medicine and science to give just a few examples, replacing other languages such as French or German. Moreover, English has been invading native languages. Words like supermarket, hit, hamburger or hot dog have stayed for good not only in Polish.
